Food safety consultant Matt Peterson

Matt Peterson

Matt is a Metro Detroit native and holds a B.S. in nutritional sciences from Michigan State University. He is proud to have had his coursework at the country’s first agricultural school and continues to participate with Michigan State’s extension program.

Having worked in the food manufacturing industry as a food safety professional for 15 years, some of Matt’s areas of special interest include regulatory compliance, working with new businesses, and streamlining food safety systems.

Matt has experience in a range of food safety roles within the food processing industry including quality supervisor, quality assurance and technical manager, and quality director. His experiences on both the factory floor and in senior leadership meeting rooms mean he is able to support and consult food companies from first-hand knowledge in the food manufacturing field across varying levels of challenge and complexity. His roles in the food manufacturing industry have taken him from farmlands to industrial cities and he has worked with some of the country’s most beloved brands.

  • Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI)

  • Lead Instructor, Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA) Preventive Controls for Human Food

  • HACCP Manager Certification

  • Seafood HACCP Certification

  • Better Process Control School Certification

  • ServSafe Lead Instructor (Food Manager)

When Matt isn’t consulting he enjoys cooking, hiking, and going on adventures with his wife and two sons.
